Growing up in an orphanage in Belize is already a threat to most children’s welfare. Combine that with the complications of Brittle Bone disease and it clearly diminishes their chances of survival. Children with that array of issues often end up abandoned and on the street. But Lisa and Chris weren’t going to let that happen. They too have Brittle Bone disease and launched into the complicated process of adopting Anicee at age 6. After more than a year, they brought her back to Colorado and dedicated themselves to making the best life they could for her.

Anicee recently completed her first two years in college which was tough enough but she has grit, and joyously pushed herself through navigating around campus and to her classes in her unique motorized chair. An additional challenge was having to do all her studies and her computer-intensive, part-time job on a small laptop which generated physical stress, eye strain, and increasing fatigue. Courageous Faces Foundation donors generously provided Anicee with a docking station, a lighted keyboard, and two monitors, erasing much of the strain she’d been experiencing. Even with all her challenges, Anicee is never a complainer, and believes it’s all about giving back to others to the extent she can. She continues to be an inspiration to those who know her and finds her greatest joy in doing what she can for others.
